M2M - machine to machine
What is M2M?
The M2M technology stands for Internet-based communication of machines, vehicles, containers, vending machines or other objects among each other or with a central controlling point. A variety of applications are possible in the range of supervisioning, locating, tracing and controlling.
Machine-to-machine communcation allows optimization of processes by wireless information flow.
Why GPRS?
Earlier M2M applications were based on simple telephone lines for data transmission. This point-to-point method is not suitable to build a network. Immagine to query the current status of 5000 vending machines: It would take a month to dial each machine.
By means of the GPRS technology each device is always connected to the server and can exchange data in real time. In contrast to dial-in connections only the amount of data will be charged.
